Every culture has developed its own brand of spiritual music, whether it is influenced by monolithic religions such as Islam, Christianity, or Judaism, or the product of mystical beliefs such as Buddhism or Hinduism. In the Arab World, Sufism is the dominant mystical form.  Stemming from Islam, it has influenced many other religions and spiritual beliefs.  Sufism embraces the Divine through rejecting all worldly pleasures, and through ritualized practices such as Zikr (Thikr) and Samaa'.  Repetition in the music is the key to achieving a deep trance state of meditation, connecting the believer with the Divine.  Today we explore two spiritual pieces of music from Sheikh Mahmoud Nabhan and Mohamed Abdel Wahab.
